Private Lessons

The first two tunes I wanted to start with are Lonesome Fiddle Blues and Interstate Rag. With my private students, I always teach these tunes together or back to back. The reasons for this are:

Both tunes are in "AABA" format.

The chord progression for the "B" part in both tunes, are identical.

Neither tune has a great deal of melody in the "B" part. So we have some "stepping out" room.

The solos for both "B" parts are interchangeable. If you learn both solos, you automatically have two "B" part solos for both tunes.

Once pickers get some tunes under their belts, almost everyone wants to start stepping out and improvising their own solos. This will give you a good running start to that goal.

Lonesome Fiddle Blues was played with a "straight rhythm".

Interstate Rag was played with a "swing rhythm".
